A Daughter-Father CFA® Team
With a love for investment analysis and helping others, our daughter-father team of Margaret Rubey Rust and Chuck Rubey opened our business in 1992 as a boutique Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) serving the San Francisco Bay Area.
Both Chuck and Margaret carry the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, the most rigorous credential in investment management. Most advisors who hold this designation put their advanced investment knowledge to work in the institutional investment world, but we chose to serve individuals and families. We take great joy in building personal relationships and helping others nurture their wealth so that it can nurture them.
In addition to the CFA designation, we both hold the Personal Financial Planning (PFP) credential from UC Berkeley, which we use to apply advanced investment research to personalized investment plans.
We make it a point to get clients excited about their finances and invested in their future both monetarily and emotionally. Whether that means helping you pick stocks in companies you feel good about owning, helping you map out how to reach specific goals such as fully funding your retirement or your children’s education, or just keeping you up to date on changes in the market, we want you to take pride in your financial strategies and feel empowered that you are taking control of the future of your wealth.
What Makes Our Bay Area Firm Unique
We’re a boutique, independent, fee-only Registered Investment Advisor (RIA).
We take the time to get to know you and understand what you’re looking to achieve.
We don’t use cookie-cutter “model portfolios” but instead build custom investment portfolios for each client.
We conduct our own internal investment analysis instead of outsourcing it to a third-party money manager.
We specialize in cash flow planning and can build portfolios to help provide you with multiple income streams.
Our proprietary LifeTime CashFlow analysis can help project how your wealth and income are likely to flow throughout your life.
Our founders carry the CFA designation, the most rigorous credential in the investment management industry.
Meet The Team
Margaret Rubey Rust, CFA
Managing Director
Margaret serves as the managing director of Rubey & Rust, where she leads our team by supporting client needs and conducting original investment research. She carries the CFA designation and holds a Personal Financial Planning (PFP) credential from UC Berkeley.
Margaret grew up in Orinda and went to UC Davis, where she studied finance but majored in textiles and clothing. She earned her PFP with her father, Chuck Rubey, while working her “day job” at Nordstrom. After graduating in 1992, she and Chuck started Rubey & Rust Capital Management. Subsequently, they earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Margaret works with clients of all types and would call herself a wealth manager or “creating wealth” manager. She loves what she does and enjoys helping people reduce their stress over their investments.
Chuck Rubey, CFA
Director Emeritus
Charles “Chuck” C. Rubey and his wife, Jane, retired to Medford, Oregon, after making Orinda their home for over 30 years. Chuck holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Additionally, he has an MBA and Personal Financial Planning credential from UC Berkeley.
Chuck retired from IBM in 1992 after 30 years in sales and systems engineering. In 1992, he and Margaret started Rubey & Rust Capital Management. In 2016, they transitioned the firm from Protected Investors of America to TD Ameritrade, Institutional. Chuck continues to work regularly with Margaret, traveling quarterly to the Bay Area to meet with clients.
